  • Reponsible for technology strategy and operational execution of a $500+ million strategic business unit (SBU) focused on delivering customer facing online products to the legal academic market, corporate law departments, government agencies/courts, and fraud and other suspicious behavior detection for organizations such as law enforcement.
  • Directs the activities of a functionally and geographically distributed collection of technology teams consisting of several hundred employees and tens of millions of dollars of capitalized labor per year.
  • Partners closely with the product and marketing teams to to craft business cases for new initiatives that drive growth through the innovative use of technology.
  • Reports directly to the SBU President and participates vigorouly as a member of the executive leadership team in a wide variety of cross functional activities.
  • Contributes to the due deligence efforts around acqusitions and drives technology integration and other synergery efforts against the overall corporations platform consolidation goals to increase efficiency through leverage and extend the capabilities of new technology offerings widely across the company

 

Thomson Reuters Vice President, New Product Technologies / WestlawNext [ 1/08 to 3/11 ]
  • Provided tight financial discipline that, in spite of massive scale and a high rate of change, delivered on time and on budget earning accolades from senior executives as perhaps "the best managed project in the history of the company" and winning the company's President award for 2009.
  • Championed a new way of developing products using a hybrid Agile approach, with co-location and frequent interaction with the business, resulting in a high-trust collaborative relationship that produced an optimal mix of features with reduced risk.
  • Fostered innovation by introducing many new approaches including the use of cloud based computing to test the product at scale and the creation of a real-time continuous build/integration development ecosystem that detected bugs early in the cycle reducing the pre-launch quality uncertainty that most projects experience.

  • Held central role in the design, creation and initial launch of West Publishing Company's Web offering (westlaw.com)
  • Demonstrated record of success at engineering the turn around of failing development efforts and rapidly delivering results leading to timely shipment of quality software (WestMate 7.x)
  • Led teams that brought to market a wide variety of legal research products on the Windows and Macintosh platforms including PREMISE, LawDesk, WestCheck, CiteLink and more.
  • Early career experience included numerous development, programming and analysis roles building legal research applications in C, C++ and other desktop technologies.
